This is a genuine review from a prospective home buyer for Ryan Homes at Camden Station in North Carolina (east of Elizabeth City). My wife and I are on the verge of retirement and we're looking for a retirement home in a retirement friendly state. We currently live in Washington DC (30 + years) and we're looking to get away from the urban crush, high expenses, and daily grind of people, commute, and congestion. We've looked all over mid-Atlantic, mainly VA and NC. My wife owns a condo in Duck, NC, so we wanted to get closer to that. Which brings me to Camden Station.
I happened upon Ryan Homes/Camden Station with a simple google search, saw it was a small, compact community near Elizabeth City, NC, which appealed to us, because it has good access to Outer Banks. It's obviously all new construction, but again, small compact, around 40 homes... nothing but surrounding farmland at the moment, yet 5 miles from Elizabeth City, which is a surprisingly cool town with great old mansion houses, a nice waterfront area, great assortment of restaurants and breweries downtown... big new hospital going in on west side of town, plus Super Walmart, and all the usual major chain stores, brand new on west side. As an aside, we stayed at Culpepper B&B downtown EC, great place!
So, bottom line, Camden Station and EC, NC have everything we're looking for... our new forever home, all the amenities we need, quality of life, ease of commute/transit, open space, proximity to OBX, affordable nice brand new houses... we even met some of our new prospective neighbors... Camden Station seems like a great place to live... we're throwing in. Just put our money down on Hudson model on Lot 13!
I will add, my wife takes awhile to research and make important decisions like this, understandably so. She needs to research, see, touch and feel everything about the local environment before she makes a decision... we did that in spades. Michelle Geronimo, sales lead at Camden Station, gave us all the info, time, space, and support we needed to come to our eventual logical conclusion... we had to buy at Camden Station. Michelle is top notch, professional, patient and attentive. At several points throughout our two week exploration/discussion of Camden Station, we were in and out, mainly due to fears of throwing in and committing. But Michelle was patient with us, worked through and answered every single question we had... and here we are... soon to be owners of a Hudson model on Lot 13. Now that we've overcome our initial trepidation, there's nothing but excitement! We've got a 1.09 acre lot which is a blank canvass... with a house to match.
Ryan Homes at Camden Station, NC... check it out, perhaps we'll be neighbors!
OK, updating review today, 11 May 2024: So, as stated previously, my wife is someone who needs to research, touch, feel, and experience everything to achieve closure. She agonized over this decision, to the point where we made multiple trips down to Elizabeth City to explore the area, other builders and other homesites. Throughout that process, Michelle and Kristin (regional sales manager) at Ryan Homes were incredibly patient, understanding, and provided us with all the info and time we needed to finally close things out. I won't go into details, but Michelle, Kristin, and Ryan, did everything they could, AND BEYOND, to make this work. We sent our final pre-construction payment yesterday, we're locked in. One final comment, the people and a couple buyers we met in the community are salt of the earth types, we know we'll have a very strong, small close-knit, core value community. Can't wait to see the finished product! Thanks Michelle, Kristin, Will, and Ryan team!

My wife and I decided to retire in NC. We happened to drive by the Ryan's homes at Camden Station. There we met with Michelle the agent in the model. We wanted a single story. Michelle took us under her wing and explained what models were available, elevation, choices of cabinets, tile, etc. We were set at ease with the whole presentation and process. We bought a house without even seeing one in person! That's how great Michelle represented Ryan Homes and stands behind their workmanship. Thanks again Michelle for helping us make the right move.

Finalized my contract yesterday. Chris (sales) and Mitch (finance) were incredibly kind, thorough, professional, and trustworthy - they explained every detail until I was confident in my decision and/or signature. The neighborhood is beautiful, the location is convenient, and the home layout is ideal for my family. I am SO excited to watch the building process begin on my brand new home!
